My first river trip, down the Rogue in Oregon, I went directly over a 4-foot pour-over that had 20 yards easy clearance on either side. Made myself and teenage nephew part of the RRSC. He passed the intelligence test by immediately switching to somebody else’s boat :)

The description of hitting the only rock around at an otherwise simple ripple is priceless and I am glad that the possible greatest disaster was avoided by the described rational action. Wern’t those little yellow mangos good? Those winds through the canyon must have been something; they were pretty high here in Flagstaff as well.
