Hopefully you are giving her work to do so she gets the feeling of contributing.

I had my 12-year-old daughter on our trip. She brought homework along too. We unpacked it from the boat every night. But it never came out of the dry box. She did enjoy being part of a work crew. By the end of the trip I think she grew up and matured at least a year! You can read more about our trip story at http://thenotesguyinseattle.com/canyonlinks/

I would assume by the blog details that no one has flipped yet, but how are the wooden boats holding up? By this time last year (with higher water), we had punched a hole in the bottom of the Susie R. Any incidents?

There’s a lot less stuff to move on a backpack trip, but you have to carry it all day. On the other hand, after loading hundreds of pounds of gear into a boat and cinching it all down, then rowing all day, it’s really tiring to have to unload it all again at the end of the day. But the food sure was good!

Plus with everybody pitching in the loading and unloading goes pretty quick after the first couple of days.
