2011 Winter Run – Day 9

Day 9 started as any other — coffee call at 7:30 and breakfast at 8:00.  Then clean-up and pack the kitchen.  Pack up your gear and load the boats.  We launched about 9:30.  It was cold and there was a slight breeze blowing up stream.  I was partnered with Arnie for the day in a self-bailing boat so it looked like an easy day.  In the early afternoon we came to Hermit Rapids.  The only thing you had to do was avoid the HUGE hole that was river slightly right of center.   Arnie start past the hole and then down into it we went. A wave smashed against the boat and next thing I know was looking up through the murky water to see the bottom of the raft.  The details of this little swim will be told later.  Tom Martin pulled me up on to his boat with the help of Chris.  Then it was to shore strip off the wet clothes put on dry one’s and off went to the rafts and down river.  Arnie was helped out by Conan who was in his kayak.  We both suffered a little chill from the cold.
